About
The hanickou mission is to design garments with meaning and purpose, not necessarily reinventing the wheel, but to inspire creativity and style in everyday life. Fashion is self-expression, and does not have to be taken too seriously, just make you feel good. All hanickou products are designed and sewn by Hannah Sum in Toronto, Canada.
Hannah Sum is a graduating student of the School of Fashion at Toronto Metropolitan University. She has focused her undergraduate studies within the scope of fashion design, but often dabbles in other fashion-related concentrations in order to broaden her knowledge. Hannah lives and studies in Toronto, Ontario. Most recently, she completed a semester abroad in London, UK studying at University of the Arts London – London College of Fashion. Prior to her time in Toronto, Hannah also completed one year of studies in Fashion Design and Technology in Paris, FR at International Fashion Academy Paris.
In her practice, Hannah often finds herself inspired by everyday people. As a ready-to-wear designer, she feels it is important that her inspiration is connected to the people she aims to design for. Her designs carry a humorous, unserious, and often sarcastic air. She hopes that her audience resonates with her work and even finds moments of humour and lightheartedness embedded within all that she creates.
